Enjoy a fantastic free day of Latvian music and dance in Corby town centre on Sunday 1 May from 12pm to 6.30pm!
12pm Parade from swimming pool through town centre to Corby Boardwalk in Market Walk.
12.30pm to 6.30pm Latvian choirs, dance folk groups and theatre troupes from across the UK on Corby Boardwalk.
Around the performance area will be stalls selling traditional Latvian food, drinks, flower wreaths and souvenirs.
There will also be a ‘Latvians in Corby’ exhibition in the Rooftop Arts Centre (Chisholm House, 9 Queens Square, NN17 1PD) from 10am to 6pm with a series of discussions panels:
- 1pm From Riga – Nora Ikstena – internationally acclaimed novelist and commentator discussing her tragically inspiring 2018 novel “Soviet Milk”. Is this the past of our future?
- 2.30pm From Oundle – Ted Sullivan – journalist, academic and blogger “Why Journalism Matters” discussing war and journalism in today’s Europe; fake news and why Russian journalists are now gathering in Riga.
- 4pm From London – Lilija Zobens and Leslie East – singer, pianist, conductors, music publishers discussing why music makes Latvians tick; from folk to classical, from the kokle to the symphony orchestra, from the choir to the song festival.
